St. John's American Evangelical Lutheran Church serves the residents
of Guttenberg, Iowa and the surrounding rural area and also has members who live in and
around nearby communities such as Colesburg, Elkader, Garber, Garnavillo, Holy Cross,
Millville and Osterdock. WE ARE HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. The church also visits
homebound and hospitalized members as well as residents of Assisted Living Centers and the
Guttenberg Care Center. The Church is located at 203 Pearl Street in Guttenberg.
St. John's services are held Sunday morning 10:15-11:15 a.m. (9 am Jun-Aug) and
Saturday evening 5:30-6:15 p.m. During Sep-May: Sunday School for 3 year olds through grade 8 is on
Sunday morning 8:45-10:00 a.m. and a breakfast High School Sunday School for grades 9-12
is held Friday morning 7:00-8:00 a.m. where we feed the soul as well as the stomach.
In 2004, St. John's celebrated the 150 year anniversary of
the congregation being established. A new limestone church was dedicated
in 1949. In the late 50's the congregation raised the funds to install a
series of stained glass windows that tell the story of Christ. Pastor
