Bethany responds to the Gospel

Encourages Gifts for Lutheran Disaster Response

Dear Members and Friends of Bethany,

“I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was naked and you gave me clothing; I was sick, and you took care of me.”

 - Matthew 25:35-36

Helping those in need—it’s what God would have us do.  It tells the world Whose we are.

If you’ve had the news on even once this week, you know the pitifully desperate circumstances of the people in Haiti: the injured; the hungry; the grieving; the dying; the caregivers; the hopeless.  You’ve seen the ruined hospitals, schools, businesses and homes. You’ve seen with your own eyes the new orphans, volunteers and NGO’s who were already there to help.  Those who are homeless and without means of work in the crumbled city are also without food and access to water and health care.  Thousands have lost what little they had before the quake.

Saving lives, clearing rubble, rebuilding the community—all kinds of help—takes huge amounts of money.

Bethany encourages all members and friends of the congregation to give generously to Lutheran Disaster Response in the next two weeks.  Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response provide immediate and effective support to communities which are in need. 100% of your gift will be used in full to bring life-sustaining support to this crisis.  The funds will be distributed through Lutheran World Relief and the Lutheran World Federation, both of which have been operating in Haiti for quite some time.

Please prayerfully consider what you can joyfully give, with gratitude in your heart for the opportunity to share with our neighbors.

You may want to give through Bethany.  Soon in the mail most of you will receive special envelopes which will be received on Sunday, January 24 and Sunday, January 31.  Make your checks out to “Bethany Church” and memo: “Haiti.”

You may want to give TODAY to “Lutheran Disaster Services”.  Please click on the button “Haiti Earthquake Relief” in the right-hand column.

Thank you for your generosity in this time of great need.  And please continue to pray for all the people in Haiti.
