Our History
Meuser Lumber Company in Guttenberg, Iowa grew out of a softwood sawmill business, which started back in the mid 1800's. It was located on the banks of the Mississippi River and they received their northern pine from rafts of logs that had floated down the river from Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 1907, the office was moved to its present site in Guttenberg and our main lumber shed was constructed and is still in use today.
In 1908 Fred J. Friedlein took over management of Meuser Lumber, and then buying it in the 1930's. Today John Finch, great-grandson of Fred Friedlein is the fourth generation to manage this family owned business.
