June 7-11

St. John's American Evangelical Lutheran Church serves the residents of Guttenberg, Iowa and the surrounding rural area and also has members who live in and around nearby communities such as Colesburg, Elkader, Garber, Garnavillo, Holy Cross, Millville and Osterdock.  WE ARE HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE.  The church also visits homebound and hospitalized members as well as residents of Assisted Living Centers and the Guttenberg Care Center.  The Church is located at 203 Pearl Street in Guttenberg.   St. John's services are held Sunday morning 10:15-11:15 a.m. (9:15 am Memorial Day through Labor Day) and Saturday evening 5:30-6:15 p.m.  During Sep-May: Sunday School for 3 year olds through grade 8 is on Sunday morning 8:45-10:00 a.m. and a breakfast High School Sunday School for grades 9-12 is held Friday morning 7:00-8:00 a.m. where we feed the soul as well as the stomach.

In 2004, St. John's celebrated the 150 year anniversary of the congregation being established.  A new limestone church was dedicated in 1949.  In the late 50's the congregation raised the funds to install a series of stained glass windows that tell the story of Christ.  Pastor Harold McMillin explains the meaning of the windows and the symbols of the church in tours he conducts of the church.  Click the St. John's Symbols button below to see and read more about the symbols and windows by clicking here or click the St. John's Symbols button below.
