Pastor Shane Anderson

Pastor Shane Anderson graduated from Luther Seminary and served congregations in Minnesota before accepting the call to move to Guttenberg to serve St. Paul and St. John's ELCA congregations.  Anderson grew up in St. Paul, Minn. and was raised by an aunt and uncle who attended a Lutheran church, remembering, "My cousin and I went to church whether we wanted to or not."  He served in the U.S. Army and it was through a relationship with a military chaplain that he came to know the gospel personally.

Following his military service, Anderson graduated from Minnesota State University and had a successful career as a mechanical engineer.

He enrolled in the seminary with an exploratory attitude, but after passing Greek, continued his studies and graduated in 2-005.  Describing his call to lead modern day Christian disciples, Anderson said, "You hear the Word and something happens.  It speaks to you."

Pastor Anderson served Lutherans in Askov and Lake Park, Minnesota before considering the opportunity in Guttenberg.  He researched the local community, including high school graduation rates, and said his family's first impression of Guttenberg was favorable, discovering "a beautiful, clean town, right on the river."

He joins Pastor Harold McMillin in co-ministering to the Clayton Valley Parish.  Currently Pastors Anderson and McMillin experience daily devotions together and are exploring both the sharing and division of pastoral duties.  One of Pastor Anderson's priorities will be meeting the members of the parish, learning their stories and allowing them to know his.  He also looks forward to planning meaningful worship experiences for members.  Pastor McMillin will move toward retirement over the next several years.

Pastor Anderson has been married to his wife, Lori, for 20 years.  On a real day off from the Clayton Valley ministry, he will enjoy woodworking and nature photography.  Lori enjoys reading, scrap booking and quilting.

The Andersons are parents of Michael, a 7th grader and Matthew, a 5th grader.  Described as the best of friends, Pastor Anderson expects the boys to become involved in scouting and school activities.

Anderson's installation included one of his favorite hymns, A Mighty Fortress is our God, and words from Ephesians 2:8 which have inspired his call to the ministry, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (NIV)

Pastor Anderson welcomes ideas, concerns, conversation and friendship from Clayton Valley Lutherans and all members of the community at large.  His contact information is:
